These beautiful Monarch butterflies were spotted at the Bartlett Arboretum in Belle Plaine over the weekend, and soon the skies over Kansas will once again be filled with orange and black as the 2025 monarch butterfly migration reaches the Sunflower State. Each fall, monarchs travel as far as 3,000 miles from their northern breeding grounds in Canada and the United States to the high-altitude fir forests of central Mexico, where they overwinter.
Last weekend, the Great Plains Transportation Museum in Wichita welcomed railfans young and old to its annual “Railfest,” a celebration of trains, history, and community. The star of the show was Steam Locomotive #85, affectionately nicknamed Mack.
